KARACHI, OCTOBER 24: Allrounder Abdur Razzak hit a whirlwind unbeaten 75 off just 40 balls to help Pakistan post a challenging 304-9 against England in the first one-day international match against England here Tuesday.
The 22-year-old hit all the English bowlers with ease and perfection to record his career-best score. Middle order batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq scored 71 in Pakistan’s total.
Razzak improved his previous two innings of 70 — both against Australia with five fours and three sixes. Pakistan, batting by choice, had a brisk start of 39 with Saeed Anwar in a punishing mood, hitting four boundaries in his 24. Craig White dismissed Anwar with his first ball, caught behind by Alec Stewart. Salim Elahi, who hit a century in the warm up game Friday, partnered Imran Nazir in a stand of 48 for the second wicket.
Elahi and Nazir fell within ten runs to leave Pakistan at 97-3 in the 19th over. Haq completed his 55th half century off 68 balls studded with four boundaries. Darren Gough returned for a second spell to dismiss Youhanna, caught behind the wicket off a faint edge. Youhanna made 35 with a single boundary. Pakistan were 198-4 after 40 overs and with Haq in fine fettle, the home team expected to reach a big total.
Haq scooped a low full toss straight to Andrew Flintoff at square leg off Mark Ealham. Haq’s 71 came off 87 balls and was spiced with six fours. Captain Moin Khan and Abdur Razzak gave the impetus to the home team’s innings with a fiery stand of 48 off just 27 balls. Razzak reached his seventh limited over 50 off just 29 balls with two fours, and two sixes off White and Ealham.
Pakistan added 106 runs in the last ten overs.
