Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata has been named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year 2003. Tata received the award from Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani. The award is in recognition of the makeover that Tata has been able to achieve. It noted that since he took over the reins of the Tata Group in 1991, Tata has transformed the relatively unwieldy conglomerate to one which is more nimble-footed and cohesive. Tata will now represent India at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Award Ceremony in Monte Carlo, Monaco, in June 2004. The legendary founder of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Dr Verghese Kurien received the Lifetime Achievement Award for making the milk cooperative movement a reality which has changed the lives of millions of farmers in the country.
