According to defence sources, the arrest of an HM terrorist, Mansoor Ahmed, in Doa last week provided security forces with vital clues of the whereabouts of the youths who were abducted in January-February this year. Mansoor Ahmed was reportedly involved in their abduction.

The Rashtriya Rifles launched a search in the dense forest of Dushhan at the outskirts of Udainpur and found the hideout after four days. Two terrorists who were guarding the captives fled on seeing the security forces.

Narrating their tale, the youths said they were picked up on different dates and brought to Udainpur by a group of HM terrorist functioning under self-styled district commander of Doda tehsil, Riaz Daud Bhatt code “Shaheen”. They were shifted to the hideout where they were fed only once a day and severely beaten for showing resistance to join the terrorist cadre.

The recent intelligence reports by various agencies have highlighted this new trend of “forced recruitment” of young boys due to reduced local support.
