After confirming the gangrape of a woman at Ghokshadanga in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal, State Women Commission members in a report submitted to the state government today complained of police apathy towards the victim.

The report stated: ‘‘At first Kamalesh Adhikary (of Ghokshadanga police station who is the investigating officer in the case) did not co-operate with the victim. Later the OC arranged for a medical test and took necessary steps.’’

In the Dhantala incident, too, the Commission had charged the police with failure to take adequate steps.
