Rape charge against Pak snooker player

KARACHI: Pakistani police said on Monday top international snooker player Swaleh Mohammad had been arrested after a woman alleged he and three other men raped her at a hotel here. “We have arrested Swaleh and his friend Imran Nazir on the complaint of a young girl,†senior police officer Majeed Dasti said. The pair were arrested on Saturday after the 24-year-old woman alleged she was gang-raped by more than two men in a local hotel here on Friday, Dasti said. Swaleh finished third in the World Snooker Amateur Championship in China in 1999. The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association was quick to defend Swaleh. “It looks a frame-up case because Swaleh only booked the room for his friends … and he has pleaded innocent,†the association president Ali Asghar Valike said.
