Former PM P.V. Narsimha Rao suffered a heart attack in the early hours of Friday. His condition was said to be critical during the day but by evening he was ‘‘stable’’.
The 83-year-old politician was admitted to AIIMS at 2 am on Friday after he complained of breathlessness. A statement released by AIIMS said Rao had his breakfast and had gone back to sleep when he suffered a ‘‘cardiac arrest due to electrical disturbances in the heart rhythm’’.
Several Congress and BJP leaders visited him in the evening. Defence Minster Pranab Mukherjee and Sonia Gandhi called on him, followed by Delhi CM Sheila Diskhit. Former PM A.B. Vajpayee also put in a visit.
