Congress dubbed senior Maharashtra Minister Narayan Rane’s open attack on Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh as prima facie ‘an act of indiscipline’.

“No one in the party and no one in the government can make such remarks openly against the Chief Minister and grievances if any, should be raised in the party fora. Going to the press is quite inappropriate,” AICC media department Chairperson, Veerappa Moily, said.

Asked whether Rane’s action was an act of indiscipline, Moily said, ‘prima facie it was so’.

He said Congress general secretary Margaret Alva, who is in-charge of party affairs in Maharashtra, will look into the matter.

Rane, who lashed out at Deshmukh on Friday, is reportedly awaiting an audience with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Dissidence in the ruling Congress in Maharashtra flared up in the open when Rane, the state Revenue Minister, opened a front against Deshmukh by saying that he was ‘not happy’ with the government’s functioning, escalating the political battle over leadership change in the state.
