After hooting to fame, ace shooter Jaspal Rana has decided to try his hands in the battle of ballots. He has applied for a BJP ticket from the Tehri Garhwal constituency. Rana, a former junior world champion, has sent in his application to Uttaranchal BJP chief and former chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari yesterday with a request to forward the same to the party high command. A Padmashree and Arjuna awardee, Rana said that he has been actively involved with Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, youth wing of BJP, since 1997. His father Narayan Singh Rana was a former BJP minister in the first Nityanand Swami ministry in Uttaranchal. However, the constituency preferred by Rana is presently represented by Manvendra Shah, erstwhile Raja of Tehri, who has won six times from his home turf. Rana’s native village Chilamu also falls in Tehri constituency. The ace shooter runs a shooting academy near here. The candidature of Rana has initiated the race for tickets in BJP. Lakhi Ram Joshi, a former BJP legislator, is also seeking ticket from the same constituency.
