Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa today said the PMK, which is spearheading a Tamil nationalist movement, should first advise their leader’s son and Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss to switch to Tamil attire.
Anbumani is generally seen wearing suits while other politicians from the state are clad in dhoti and full-sleeved shirts.
Replying to PMK’s Leader in the Assembly G.K. Mani’s persistent plea to make the Tamil language a part of the curriculum in all schools in the state, Jayalalithaa pointed to the sartorial habits of their Chinna Ayya Anbumani which are quite contrary to the ideals the PMK has set for itself.
The Chief Minister then went on to shower praise on ‘‘Harvard-educated’’ Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram who is normally seen wearing a dhoti and shirt. ‘‘Though politically, he is in a rival camp, we appreciate the Finance Minister’s good manners,’’ Jayalalithaa said.
When Mani said one’s dress habits had nothing to do with the language issue, Jayalalithaa said language and culture were inseparable.
When the DMK’s Deputy Leader in the Assembly Durai Murugan sought to know whether the Chief Minister would ban Chinese restaurants which were selling foods contrary to Tamil culture, Jayalalithaa laughed it off.
