MUMBAI, April 21: A fine all-round performance by Raju Thakur was instrumental in Oriental Bank’s 39 runs victory over Credit Agricole Indo-Suez Bank. With this win, Oriental bagged the Sir Benegal Ramarau Trophy, the symbol of supremacy for Inter-Bank Junior cricket, at the Wankhede Stadium, todayOriental Bank, after winning the toss, did well to score 209 for 8 in the alloted 45 overs. Opener Raju Thakur (29) and Dilip Dhumal (37) gave them a good start by putting on 67 runs in 16.4 overs. Mr Extras was the top scorer with 39 runs. Indo-Suez began badly by losing their opener Kadri to the very first ball of the innings. They recovered through a fourth-wicket partnership between Mazhar Sagri and Ganesh Narayan of 70 runs before Sagri became the first victim of Thakur for 27.

Thereafter, the Indo-Suez batting succumbed to Thakur’s off-spin of Thakur and were all out for 170. Narayan was unlucky to miss his half century by two runs which included eight fours after facing 40 balls.

Thakur finished withremarkable figures of 9-1-20-4.

Ketkar sparkles

A five-wicket haul by off-spinner Dhananjay Ketkar, who was ably supported by left-arm spinner Yeshwant Gavad, helped Central Railway Mumbai Division to restrict Brihan Mumbai Mahanagarpalika (BMM) for 146 on the first day of the four-day final of the Times Shield H Division cricket tournament at the Karnataka Sporting Association ground, Cross Maidan, today.

At draw of stumps, the railmen were 158 for 1 and are well set to take a big first innings lead over their rivals.

BMM, after opting to bat, were in all sorts of troubles and lost wickets at regular intervals before being all out for 146. The only bright spot was J T D’Souza’s unbeaten 32 while batting at No.9. Ketkar finished with five for 56 off 17.3 overs.

Central Railway opener Deepak Kanojia (batting 76: 10×4) and Mansoor Khan (31) gave them agood start by putting on 108 runs. At stumps, Kanojia and Sudhakar Chavan (41: 6×4) were leading the charge.
