PUNE, Feb 26: Hosts St. Vincent’s HS lifted the winner’s trophies in both the age categories in the invitational inter school hockey tournament played at their home grounds, today.
The under-13 boys defeated Dastur Hoshang Boys by a solitary goal to garner four points. But their seniors U-15 `A’ team drew with Alegaonkar HS (AHS) 1-1, both finishing with four points each. However, St. Vincent’s nosed ahead on the basis of a better goal difference to claim the Babu Nimal trophy.
In the under-13 match, an early goal scored by Vishal Rajput, courtesy a penalty corner proved decisive as St. Vincent’s kept on to their lead to win the late Joe Philip trophy.
The encounter which followed proved to be much more exciting. AHS shot into lead with the match barely three minutes old. Viresh Waghmare positioned in the circle latched on to a pass from Paras Samudray. Before hosts ‘keeper Mubin Shaikh could charge forward, Viresh sounded the board.
St. Vincent’s scored the equaliser in the 28th minute via Kenneth M, but not before undergoing some tense moments. Joel Patrick sent in a cross pass to Kenneth who scored from a slight angle from the right.
