Tankerful of solvent seized
Personnel of district supplies office have seized a tanker carrying 8,000 litres of a highly volatile solvent. The driver initially tried to mislead the officials about the place to which the consignment was dispatched but repeated interrogation revealed that the solvent was being carried from Mumbai to an IOC petrol pump in Mangrol to adulterate petrol with it. The tanker has also been impounded and further investigations are on in the matter.
Workers stir
Porbander: Porbander municipality safai kamdars, daily wage labourers and other staff began a hunger strike in support of their various demands including taking daily wagers on permanent basis. Their stir is led by their union’s vice-president Harish Valam and secretary Bhikhubhai Arjan. The workers have threatened to stop clearing garbage in the town if the district collector did not intervene and solve their problems. They demand regular payment of salaries, implementation of the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission, PF loan facility and payment of arrears.

Two killed
Jamnagar: Two ladies were killed on the spot in two road accidents here on Sunday, police said. Fatema Murtuza Saifuddin (25), her husband and their minor daughter met with an accident near Nagnath Gate when a truck hit their moped. Fatema died on the spot while her husband and the minor were admitted to hospital. Similarly, a truck collided with a motorcycle near Jambuda,killing Hamida on the spot.
