NEW DELHI, April 23: Rajesh Kumar of IG Stadium emerged as the best boxer in the senior category as the three-day Delhi State Boxing Championships concluded at the Indira Gandhi Stadium rings here today.

The 12th class Open School student regained the title to make it four-times in five appearances. Today, the 5′ 8" boxer, who trains under junior India chief coach Om Prakash Bharadwaj, outwitted Rajender, a trainee of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, to win the gold in the fourth round when the latter pulled out. Mixing his left and right cleverly, Rajesh took advantage of the tiring Rajender and landed a couple of straights in the foruth to unsettle his opponent.There were quite a few RSCs in the finals in both sub-junior and senior categories apart from a knock out in the seniors when Surender of (KMBC) floored Lalit Rautela (NSD) in the fifth round.

Surender went for the kill ,landed a straight on Rautela’s face to send him to the canvas. Rakesh Nautiyal of the Railways did not take much time against Joginder of NSD to start with a left-right combine. Despite an injury on his right wrist, Nautiyal forced Joginder on backfoot. After the standing count, the referee stopped the contest in the second round.

However, the tall Sunil Arya of CISF scored an astounding 21-0 verdict against Vijender Singh of JNS. A rally by actor-politician Vijay in Velusamypuram ended tragically with 40 deaths in a stampede.
