After the dismissal of both the openers at the score of 118, Gautam Gambhir consolidated the position with a powerful 67 (13x4, 107m, 76b). He put on 93 for the third wicket with skipper Rajan Gupta (25) as the hapless Haryana bowlers struggled on the batsmen-friendly wicket.Rajat Khanna, a trainee of former Test batsman Gursharan Singh at Gyan Bharati School, and R R Gymkhana's Chetan Sharma played the ordinary Haryana attack to give the home team a solid start.
