Rajan Khinvsara elected vice president of Billiards and Snooker Federation of India

City-based businessman Rajan Khinvsara was elected as the vice president of the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India at its General Body meeting held at Indore recently.

City-based businessman Rajan Khinvsara was elected as the vice president of the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI) at its General Body meeting held at Indore recently.

He is the first Puneite and Maharashtrian to be elected to the prestigious post. “The sport of Billiards and Snooker which had its roots in the city and has now gained a tremendous following amongst various clubs and individuals in the last couple of years with the initiative of Mr. Khinvsara”, said Shantilal Sanghvi, veteran of the sport and the secretary of the Poona Club. Khinvsara has been elevated to the national scene after being the vice president of the Billiards and Snooker Association of Maharshtra for the couple of years. Speaking to reporters on his appointment as the vice-president of the IBSF, Mr. Khinvsara announced, “Pune will play host to Asian Snooker Championships in the city in April 2009, and it will be a great occasion for all of us. I’m happy that I have been able to get the event to the city of Pune. I want to market the green baize sports. Even though we have so many world champions we have not got the recognition, no sponsors, and no support. I will try to raise the matter with the central government.” Mr. Khinvsara also added that his company had been sponsoring the Manisha–PCL Championships which had become popular over the years, He also has plans to take the game forward with other clubs and organisers helping in the promotion of the game.

“ We will be also be organising the world championships in Billiards and Snooker at Hyderabad in 2009.” He said.
