THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, January 10: Kerala Congress leader T M Jacob has alleged that Vigilance officials who raided his residence in connection with the Kuriarkutty-Karappara Irrigation Project had taken away crucial documents implicating Chief Minister E K Nayanar's son in the Vithura sex scandal.Speaking to newspersons yesterday, Jacob said the documents which disappeared from the office-cum-guest room of his residence included a copy of a confidential letter written by DIG Sen Kumar, the Vithura case victim's deposition before SI Lekshmikutty and documents relating to certain financial transactions involving Kings Fisheries owned by Revolutionary Socialist Party leader Baby John's son. The audio cassette which contained the statement of the Vithura case victim is also missing from the office, he alleged.Jacob said he was away in Wayanad and the police did not even have the courtesy to ensure his presence in the house."The raid party did not allow me to contact my wife or children over the phone," he said. The Kerala Congress leader also demanded an inquiry into the mysterious death of Ajitha, the prime accused in the Vithura case, who died after being admitted to the Medical College Hospital in an unconscious state. He asked why Santha John, a former employee of Nayanar's son's firm in Ernakulam, had been excluded from the list of accused in the Vithura case. He also alleged that a person who held an important post in the Chief Minister's office was involved in the Palakkad sex scandal.Describing the raid as politically motivated, Jacob challenged the Chief Minister and the Vigilance officials to produce a single piece of paper to prove his involvement in the Kuriarkutty-Karappara Irrigation project corruption case. The search list submitted by the raid party did not claim that the police party had found any document related to Kuriarkutty-Karappara.The Vigilance police registered the case almost a year ago and the present raid "is sheer political vendetta," he alleged.Jacob also alleged that the government recently reshuffled the Vigilance Department to carry out the Chief Minister's secret designs to implicate United Democratic Front leaders in corruption cases. Jacob said that he was determined to initiate legal measures against those responsible for tarnishing his image through such unnecessary raids.Nayanar denies Govt role in raidKerala Chief Minister EK Nayanar on Saturday denied Government hand in the raid conducted on the residence of former Minister TM Jacob and said they were done in compliance with the court order. In a statement in Thiruvananthapuram, he said the raids were part of the investigation into the alleged irregularities in the construction of Kuriarkutty-Karappara irrigation project.
