MUMBAI, OCT 7: Sanjay K Rai became the first Indian to leapt over eight feet twice. TC Yohanan's National record of 8.07 did not look in any danger until Rai's final leap. With the wind behind him, Rai took off the board and landed 8.02 metres away, becoming the first Indian to leap over the eight-metre barrier twice.Yohanan's effort came in the 1972 Teheran Asian Games. Rai, who has leapt 8.0 metres during the Federation Cup in August at Bangalore, did his personal best. That was the only performance that drew interest as the final Circuit meet in the Indian calender ended undramatically. With the season already over and the athletes finding no motivation, there were no personal bests, so forget about a national record. There were some double winners - Shakti Singh, yes he participated, won the shot and discus gold, and Anil Kumar and PT Usha winning the sprints.Shakti won the shot and discus gold with some metres to spare (19.13). Jagveer Singh (17.76) was second. He threw the disc to 57.68metres with Kamalpreet Singh taking silver at 55.44.Anil Kumar had to powered to the 100 metres gold with Thirwagnan Durai being pushed to silver. The timing was a poor 10.67 with Durai being 0.03 seconds slower.Usha had no challenge in the sprints with Rachita Mistry out with injury. The only race with some interest was the men's 3000 metres. Gojen Singh found the pace too slow and bolted after five laps. Gulab Chand caught up two laps later and won in a canter. With Sunita Rani, she must have never seen her challengers - Moly Biju and C Latha - while winning 1,500 metres.RESULTSMen: 100: Anil Kumar 10.67; Thirwagnan Durai 10.70; Anand Menezes 10.90. 200: Anil 21.35; Menezes 21.60; Ramachandran 21.74. 400: Ramachandran 46.75; Lijo David 47.73; Jata Shankar 47.72. 3000: Gulab Chand 8:17.38; Gojen Singh 8:18.95; Harish Tiwari 8:21.77.
