KOLHAPUR: People living on the banks of rivers in Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli and Nasik districts of Maharashtra have been alerted by the district administrations to move to safer places, as the rivers are in spate following incessant rains for the past four days, affecting normal life. Hundreds of people had been shifted to safer places as flood waters entered Haldi, Phejvade and Aoli Budruk villages in Kolhapur district, reports reaching said.

Sino-Indian talks

BEIJING: A two-day meeting of the Sino-Indian Joint Working Group (JWG) on border issue will be held in New Delhi from Monday to discuss the vexed boundary problem. “Beijing is optimistic on the up-coming 10th round of Sino-Indian JWG meeting on border issue and we believe, with joint efforts made by both the sides, the talks will help in making progress on materialising the relevant agreement signed between the two countries,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

Bangla fishermen

DHAKA: Over 200 fishermen are missing in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of Bangladesh, press reports said today. Bengali daily Ittefaq said nine fishing boats and a trawler had capsized, while 11 more boats had gone missing in the rough seas. Some of the boats sailed from the south-eastern beach resort town of Cox’s Bazar, Ittefaq said.
