
Probe begins into nun8217;s kidnap case
PATNA: Bihar Director General of Police K A Jacob has started an inquiry into the complaint that a nun of the St Joseph8217;s Health Centre at Jalalpur, Chapra, was stripped by two unidentified men who also forced her to drink their urine after she was abducted near the centre in Saran district. Jacob said the nun had lodged a case with the town police station in Chapra in this connection on Thursday.
Surat firing kills 6
SURAT: In one of the worst incidents of violence in recent memory, six people died and nearly 50 were injured when the police clashed with Ganpati immersion revellers in the sensitive Limbayat area of Surat around noon on Friday. Curfew has been imposed on a part of the locality.
Rains lash Bengal
CALCUTTA: Incessant rains and a tornado killed nine persons, forced 3,000 others to leave home in 12 Bengal districts since Thursday night. The city received a record 330 mm of rain, which threw life out of gear,disrupting traffic. Shops and business establishments remained closed, and even the State Secretariat recorded poor attendance.
Minor raped, killed
HYDERABAD: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and strangled to death by five persons in Ammapur village of Mahabubnagar district on Thursday.
Police said the victim, a farm labourer, was returning home after finishing her work when the culprits accosted her, took her to the nearby agricultural fields and raped her. The culprits later strangled her to death, police said.
