Top leaders of the People’s War Group will hold direct talks with the representatives of the Andhra Pradesh government in the second week of October.

This was disclosed by PWG emissary Vara Vara Rao while addressing a massive public meeting jointly organised by the two Naxalite groups here tonight. Rao said the first round of direct talks will be held in Hyderabad. The agenda for the talks, which will also include safe passage for Naxal leaders, will be conveyed to Home Minister K. Jana Reddy tomorrow.

The PWG today put up a massive show of strength, with thousands of people from across Andhra Pradesh converging in the state capital for the rally. Holding aloft red flags and dancing to revolutionary songs, Naxalite sympathisers and members of the PWG’s frontal outfits marched through the streets of the capital before reaching the venue of the rally.

The rally today was the first in 14 years.

None of the top leaders of the Naxal group came to the meeting which was addressed by, apart from Vara Vara Rao, balladeer Gadar, Virasam president Kalyana Rao and PWG-Janasakthi representative Chandranna. PWG Guntur district secretary Ganganna was the only underground leader to turn up at the meeting.
