PATNA, JAN 12: The CPI(ML) Peoples’ War Group has slammed Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s claim that the 11 persons killed at Andgiagaon in Midnapore were members of her party and claimed instead that the dead were its own activists.
In a signed statement, PWG leading cell secretary Pramod refuted Mamata’s claim and called it a political move to gain support in the area ahead of Assembly polls in the state. The PWG also charged her with indulging in the politics of murder for her own gains. Holding the Trinamool equally responsible for the killings, Pramod said Mamamta was taking resource to such gimmicks only to broaden her base.
Pramod said that even CPI(M) Politburo member Sitaram Yechuri had pointed towards the fact that slaimed persons were not Trinamool activists. He said all 11 dead belonged to the CPI(ML) PWG’s frontal organisation, the Majdoor Krishar Sangram Samiti, and were participating in a meeting at the village. As they were leaving the village after the meeting, CPI(M) activists surrounded the village and started firing, he said. Some of the participants managed to flee, but 11 people could not.
The statement alleged that just after the massacre, CPI(M) cadres tried to tamper with the evidence and later left the village. Sources maintained that Abdur Rahman Mondal, who had filed the FIR against CPI(M), actually belongs to PWG. His house was being used for meeting and shelter. Recently, he had started extending support to Trinmool Congress, Pramod added. He asserted that the PWG would take revenge of the gruesome massacre in Midnapore and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident. The PWG claimed that it has identified the assailants and called upon its rank and file to get ready to avenge the murders.
The PWG also blamed another Naxalite outfit, the CPI(Ml) Liberation, for killings of its cadre in Bihar. It said that what CPI(M) had done in 1970, the Liberation was following the same line in Bihar now. The move to form the Left Front in Bihar wasaimed at unleashing a reign of terror and reprisal against PWG workers. It also alleged that like the CPI(M) in West Bengal, the Liberation in Bihar too was patronising landlords and their armies. According to statement, Liberation provided patronage to landlords of the Ranabir Sena.
