NAGPUR, JUNE 15: The contract rates of the State Public Works Department would soon be available on Internet, PWD Minister Nitin Gadkari said while releasing the new contract rates at a function held at Ravi Bhawan yesterday. The PWD would be buying computers worth Rs 10 crore for the same, he said.The minister said that engineers in the construction business would greatly benefit by the new contract rates list. He urged them to adopt technological advancement in the business shedding time-barred methods. Gadkari said efforts were being made to introduce these contract rates to other PWD divisions in the state.The programme was chaired by senior contractor Gijre. In his address, Gijre lauded the new booklet on contract rates and said it would greatly help engineers and other professionals related to the PWD. Chief Engineer, PWD, Deodutt Marathe said ever since the PWD was set up by Lord Dalhousie in 1865, an effort was being made to change the rules of the contract rates.The booklet has been publishedby Wordpro and more than 500 booklets were distributed on the occasion. Thereafter, sale of every copy would yield a royalty of Rs 152 to the PWD.WATERSHED MANAGEMENT WEEK: The Guardian Minister yesterday urged rural population to develop community watershed areas to arrest growing water scarcity. He said bunds should be constructed on small nullahs and rivers.Gadkari was speaking at a function organised at Abasaheb Khedkar Hall.
