PATIALA, April 15: The Punjabi University Teachers Association PUTA has threatened to resort to stringent action if the university authorities failed to stop victimisation of the teachers within a week.

This warning came during a protest rally organised in the university campus here today, against the university authorities8217; action debarring three university teachers.

It may be mentioned here that PUTA has been organising protest rallies during lunch hours since the past 10 days.

While addressing the protest rally PUTA president Dr S.S. Khaira, condemned Dr Puar for issuing chargesheets to Kaur Singh Sekhon and Gogi Sangar, former president and vice-president of Punjabi University Non-Teaching Employees Association, respectively, on flimsy grounds. He said that the vice-chancellor was trying to victimise them because since the last two years, they had consistently been spearheading the movement of non-teaching employees against his wrong policies.

Dr Hari Singh Boparai, vice-president, PUTA welcomed Charanjit Kaur, president Punjabi University Non-Teaching Employees Association for joining the protest rally against this victimisation, along with a large number of her supporters.

Rajinder Kumar Rohilla, Convenor, Karamchari Ekta Manch Sekhon group announced that his manch had unanimously decided to extend wholehearted support to PUTA in its struggle against the vitimisation of teachers as well as employees and the misdeeds of the vice-chancellor. He further declared that all the members of his Manch will regularly participate in the rally.

Addressing the rally, Dr Kehar Singh, chairman, United Teachers Front, criticised the vice-chancellor for not participating in the tercentenary celebrations of the birth of the Khalsa. Talking to ENS S.S. Khaira said that these teachers had been victimised because they refused to dance to the tunes of the vice-chancellor. He said the vice-chancellor, in order to curb the voice of truth and sanity and victimising such senior faculty members, was creating an environment of terror in the university.
