CHANDIGARH, March 12: Punjab Police annexed three of the four titles at stake, winning the handball, volleyball and basketball events today in the 48th all-India Police meet held at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi near Pune according to reports reaching here.In handball, Punjab stole a march over strong contenders Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to regain the title with a 33-30 win in regular time. Incidentally this is their third successive win. CRPF fared a shade better from last year, where they had finished third.The winners excelled through Satinder Pal who top-scored with 10 goals and Kupinder Singh who netted 8 goals, while Raja Rao and Jasram scored three apiece.The losing team, found their scorers in Jameel Ahmed (9), while Shiv Prasad and T Ashok supported him with seven goals apiece and Sandeep (3) rounded up the tally.Punjab cagers pocketed their sixth title in basketball when they downed Border Security Force (BSF) 70-63. Parwinder Singh (15), Ganesh Kumar (28), Tejinder Singh (10) secured Punjab's win, while the losers were well assisted by Satyanarayan (25) and Vipin Kumar (13). CRPF thus, who dominated the sport in the past 20 years - till 1994, had to be content with third spot with a 75-61 win over Andhra Pradesh. Punjab's spikers were in full flow en-route their title triumph. Their eight successive win, over the years, came with a humbling 25-20, 25-14, 25-19 win over Madhya Pradesh. With international Preetpal Singh, among their ranks Punjab had no difficulty overcoming their opponents.Last year's runners-up BSF took third spot with a 25-19, 25-14, 25-11 win over Special Security Bureau (SSB).In kabbadi, however, Punjab were prevented from making a clean sweep.CRPF, avenged their defeat to Punjab in handball and made up with a 33-27 wibn over former title holders Punjab 33-27 (H/T: 19-10). In loss was Punjab's first in 21 years. For CRPF Mahindra Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Angat Singh excelled in their performances and Punjab players Balkar Singh, Paramjeet Singh the backbone of the side did well to garner points for their side.In this final encounter they were without the services of international players Ranbir Singh and Balbir Singh.
