Imphal, Feb 15: Punjab won the first gold of the National games here with Vikramjit Singh winning the foil event of fencing, today. Lakmikant of Karnataka bagged the silver while the bronze went to Mathew Anne also of Punjab and Chittaranjan Maitel of Manipur.

The epee team event for girls was won by Karnataka, making it the first gold for the champions of last year. Madhya Pradesh won the silver while Manipur and Punjab won the bronze.

There was more in store for Punjab when their riders struck gold in equestrian. Talwinder Singh, astride Samrat, took gold in dressage leaving the silver for his teammate Jagdish Singh. Karnataka’s Mariba Shetti took the bronze.

Later, Talwinder Singh and Jagdish Singh were joined by Jagtar Singh and Satpal Singh for the team dressage gold. Karnataka won silver while Assam took home bronze.

In football, Manipur beat Punjab by a lone goal in Group A. Mohammed Azizul Rehman scored the goal in the 25th minute. In the other match in Group A, reigning champions Kerala wereheld to a goalless draw by Maharashtra.
