Still clueless, the Jalandhar police has come up with a theory to explain the “disappearance” of 10 children over the past one-and-a-half months — they might have been kidnapped by gangs that force kids to beg.

Police had earlier said the kidnappings could be the handiwork of a mentally-disturbed person. At a press meet today, Jalandhar SSP G.P.S. Bhullar said the Rajasthan and Delhi police had busted gangs which force children to beg after kidnapping them. Jalandhar police teams, he added, will contact them to get more information.

Bhullar said they are also contacting the National Crime Bureau to seek information about migrant labourers who might be involved in such cases.

Recently, he said, a gang involved in kidnapping, killing and selling the limbs of children was busted in Himachal Pradesh. Members of this gang will be brought to Jalandhar for interrogation, he added. A special investigation team had also been formed to crack the case.

One of the missing girls, Sapna, has been found. Police say her mother had taken her to Uttar Pradesh.
