PUNE, Dec 25: The University of Pune has held the delay in the visit of National Council for Teachers' Education's (NCTE) inspection team, as the main reason behind the failure of four Bachelor of Education (BEd) colleges in obtaining the Council's mandatory recognition. It may be recalled that NCTE had issued a fiat recently making it mandatory for all the BEd colleges to seek its recognition for running the BEd course. In its order, the Council had also notified that no recognition would be granted to the vacation BEd courses.Out of 14 regular BEd colleges in the varsity's jurisdiction ten have obtained NCTE's recognition so far. The Council has made it clear that only those colleges providing standard education would be recognised.According to the varsity officials, the failure of remaining four in obtaining the recognition was not due to they being substandard, but due to delay in visit of the inspection team of NCTE. The officials hoped that the remaining colleges will obtain the recognition by January 15, next year so that the admissions for the next academic year are not affected.Meanwhile, a meeting of principals of all BEd colleges in university's jurisdiction was held on Tuesday to discuss the issue. In the meeting the colleges were asked to strictly follow the standard norms of teaching laid down by NCTE.
