Pune varsity award for Bharade

PUNE, Jan 28: University of Pune will honour six eminent personalities with Jeevan Sadhana Gaurav Puraskar on the occasion of its golden jubilee foundation day on February 10.

The personalities chosen for the award instituted this year are veteran freedom fighter Govindbhai Shroff, Yogacharya B K S Iyengar, Gandhian Balasaheb Bharade, playwright Vasant Kanetkar, scientist H J Arnikar and Kathak dancer Rohini Bhate.Announcing this at a press conference held yesterday, Vice-Chancellor Dr Arun Nigavekar said the award will carry a momento and a citation. The management council took the decision to institute the award in its meeting held on January 4, as the members mooted the idea of felicitating renowned personalities as limited number of persons could be awarded D Litt degree. `I have spoken to all those chosen for the award and all of them have accepted it," said Nigavekar.
