PUNE, DEC 25: Neither the distance nor the biting cold could discourage Pune’s partying lot from flocking to the 1st Track MRF Go-Kart Racing Track in Mundhwa on Saturday. As evening slowly gave way to the night, a sea of enthusiastic people gathered together for the much-awaited “Romanov Rumble of the DJs.” With four of Pune’s and Mumbai’s elitest deejays all raring to give in their best to the crowd, one could only sense the oncoming of a fun-filled evening.

The men at the turn-tables were on a special mission though; even whilst the people danced and jived, the deejays were playing to establish their supremacy over each other. Behold the Pune team comprising of `the people’s DJ’ Zubair Shaikh, Yusuf Kapasi, Pawas and Navin slotted against Mumbai’s deejays Farooq, Mannu, Tammy and Ray-G.

The lovely host of the evening–Namrata Barua, dressed in a dark blue and violet ensemble, sure did make quite a few heads turn. Pune’s deejays kicked off proceedings with Zubair and Yusuf leading from up-front. The local team displayed good synchronisation and teamwork while belting out numbers right from the 60s through this new millennium. In their scheduled time of 45 minutes, the highlight of their performance was the near 40 songs they played with excellent remixing skills.

The guys from Mumbai then took centre-stage but never really seemed to get started. The deejays somehow begun and stuck onto slow, mellow beats which did not go down well with the Pune crowd. Ray-G looked good on the mixers, but was not supported well enough by his teammates. The end of their performance also gestured the vanquishing of any hope of their victory.

The two teams were judged based on three criteria, namely; mixing skills, synchronisation and audience voting. Though Mumbai beat Pune in the mixing and audience votes sections, so massive was Pune’s score in synchronisation that its deejays clinched the top spot. The deejays had good reason to celebrate as Zubair, Yusuf, Pawas and Navin were gifted a cheque of a cool Rs 50,000 by Namrata Barua.

The highlight of the night was definitely the Jhatka-Man DJ Amit’s performance towards the end of the show. Starting his act with the popular Rang Barse track, he literally had people in a frenzy with his groovy tunes. All in all, it was another night where both the young and the young at heart at Pune danced away.
