
Santosh tops UPSC in State
Santosh Vaidya who appeared for the Union Public Services Commission UPSC 1997 examination from Pune8217;s Jnana Prabodhini competitive examination centre has stood first in Maharashtra and the 12th in the country. He has been selected for the Indian Administrative Service IAS.Vaidya is a former student of Bhave School and S P College.
YWCA stand on nuclear test
The Young Women8217;s Christian Association YWCA of India has expressed the hope that that the Indian nuclear tests will compel a review of the current acquiescence of the world community in the retention of nuclear weapons by some nations and will lead to step by step universal disarmament.
Seminar on puranas
The Ved Vidnyana Mandal will organise a seminar on the Puranas8216; at S P College on June 6 and 7. Scholars from all over Maharashtra and from different parts of the country will present their papers in Marathi, English and Hindi. Dr G K Pai, director of the Mumbai-based Ananthacharya Indological Research Institute, will preside over the seminar.
Talk on cartoons
Cartoonist Mangesh Tendulkar will deliver a lecture on his cartoons at a function organised by University Women8217;s Association, Pune, at the association8217;s hall, Gokhalenagar, at 6 p.m. on June 10.
Health camp
D S Homeopathic Medical College and its attached Sanjeevan Hospital recently conducted a free homeopathic medical camp in connection with gynaec complaints. Dr Dhananjay Kelkar, medical director of Jnana Prabodhini Medical Trust, inaugurated the camp. In all, 131 women were examined during the camp.
