Health camps to mark Pawar birthday fete
Taluka-level essay competitions, blood donation camps, health check-up camps and family planning camps will be organised by the Pune District Congress committee and Pune Zilla Parishad from November 27 as part of senior Congress leader Sharad Pawar’s birthday celebrations on December 12.
Speaking with media persons on Tuesday, Pune District Congress committee president Jagannath Shevale said that the essay competition will be held for two age groups – standard VIII-X and college-level students. The topic for the schoolgoing children is “Progressive Sharad Pawar” while the topics for the college-level students will be announced later. The competition will be held on December 4.
Nearly 3000 donors are expected to donate blood at the taluka-level camps organised from November 29. The birthday celebrations will commence at Wagholi from November 27. Preparations are underway to carry out at least 2000 family planning operations while 20,000 students will participate in the health check-up camp, Shevale said.
Ughade new traffic boss
Deputy commissioner of Police Chandrakant Ughade took charge of his new office as the in-charge of traffic police on Monday evening. He replaced Deputy commissioner Prakash Pawar who has been transferred to Jalana as the Commandant of the State Reserve Police Force.
Ughade, who was the deputy commissioner (Zone I), and deputy commissioner (Crime) Ramrao Pawar were shifted out of Pune during a recent reshuffle.
Ughade had given the charge of his office to deputy commissioner Ajit Patil who was transferred here from Thane. However, the transfers of both Ughade and Ramrao Pawar were cancelled on Saturday.
PCMC action
The anti-encroachment department of the PCMC on Tuesday removed three major unauthorised constructions and nine shops at Dange chowk near Thergaon and at Kalewadi and Wakad.
An unauthorised portion of 1500 sq feet of the Shramjeevi Nagri Patsanstha at Vijaynagar Kalewadi, while portion of a bungalow owned by P R Gange at Kalewadi was razed. JCB excavators were used for pulling down the constructions. The rural police were deployed for maintaining law and order.
