One of the most significant aspects of the launch of the Amby Valley PGAI Tour was the facilitation of four people who have played a significant role in defining new paradigms for Indian Golf and have played an important role in it’s development. The facilitation of the four greats and also the announced vision of the future of Indian golf, are both characterized by one word, passion. The passion, which the Sahara India Pariwar team brings forth, was visible in the recently announced association.
‘Passion’. The exact meaning of the word as listed in the dictionary translates to: A strong belief in something or a strong feeling about a subject.
The Amby Valley project also reflects that passion and if the beautiful project, its golf course and everything around it are testimonials, then Indian professional golfers have a lot of good things to look forward to.
A brief look at the fledgling Indian golf tour reveals that a large number of professional golfers make a healthy living from the sport. The increasing prize money in Indian Golf ensures that the players can make the sport a full time career option. This has helped standards improve and the Indian PGA Tour has nurtured and provided to the world stage talents like Jeev Milkha Singh, Arjun Atwal, Jyoti Randhawa and Rahil Gangjee.
With the prize money increasing this year, it augurs well for the players. Playing for Rs. 3.05 crore in a single season will be a huge motivator. This will gear up our golfers to work harder which in turn will not only improve the standards of play in India but also the levels of competitiveness, so essential for the success of any sport. What is also certain to happen is an influx of overseas participation, which is the best form of publicity any golf Tour can receive, and we are already witnessing that happen. Any task undertaken with passion always leads to quality results. We have seen that happen to Cricket and Hockey with Sahara India Pariwar’s support, and now Indian golfers are also certain to benefit.
It’s also interesting to note that the Indian PGAI Board, which comprises mostly of players themselves, has focussed its efforts on ensuring players’ interests are taken care of.
Both these elements will further incentivise our players to better results. We have seen such results with Australian cricket which through a strong domestic structure produces some of the worlds best cricketers. With Amby Valley taking on the mantle of umbrella sponsor of the Indian Professional Golf Tour, Indian golf is all set to soar high.
