Nearly three weeks before her husband Rizwanur Rehman’s death, Priyanka Todi had told Kolkata police that they are being threatened by her industrialist father Ashoke Todi.
Both Rizwanur and Priyanka had conveyed this in a letter written on September three to then Deputy Commissioner (Detective Department) Ajoy Kumar.
“On September 3, Priyanka and Rizwanur gave a letter where she clearly mentioned that if anything happened to them her father would be responsible for it,” said Rukbanur Rahman, the elder brother of the computer graphics teacher who was mysteriously found dead on railway tracks on September 21 barely a month after he married Priyanka.
However, when Priyanka was questioned by CID and CBI she did not speak against her family.
“She wanted to stay with Rizwan but she did not speak against her family. She is traumatised and only said that her family didn’t pressurise her,” ADGP (CID) Bhupinder Singh had said after questioning Priyanka on Septemebr 28, four days after the West Bengal government handed over the case to CID.
Later, CBI officers also had a similar experience when they questioned Priyanka.
“Priyanka anwered all questions but she didn’t say anything against her family or her father. This is confusing for CBI officers,” CBI sources said.
“I cannot say specifically about Priyanka but there are some discrepancies in statements by some of those we have questioned and there is every possibility that we will interrogate them a second time,” a CBI officer said.
