Yadav loses in Judo men’s repechage final

Indian judoka Ram Ashrey Yadav's hopes of winning an Asian Games bronze medal went up in smoke.

Indian judoka Ram Ashrey Yadav’s hopes of winning an Asian Games bronze medal went up in smoke as he lost in the men’s 73kg repechage final at the Huagong Gymnasium in Guangzhou on Monday.

The 25-year-old Yadav lost 100-1 to Guvanch Nurmuhammedov of Turkmenistan in a three minutes and 37 seconds contest.

Yadav started the day with a 120-0 win over Mohammad Mohammad,before getting past Yassir Ayad of Saudi Arabia 100-0 in the preliminary stage. But he lost 111-0 in the quarterfinal to Korean Chun Ki Wang,who went on to make the finals. Yadav needed to win the repechage round to make the bronze medal playoff.

In men’s 66kg,Sanju Irom lost 0-10 to Tarek Saad of Syria in the preliminary round.

In women’s 52 kg,Kalpana Devi Thoudam lost 11-100 to Sureerat Sadmaroeng of Thailand in the preliminary contest.

Compatriot Anita Chanu also went down to Ten Alina of Kazakashtan 0-100 in women’s 57 kg preliminary contest.
