Watson wants Australia to get back to sledging

Shane Watson feels it will be difficult for Australia to keep competitive edge in the ongoing Ashes series against England without restoring to sledging.

Shane Watson feels it will be difficult for Australia to keep competitive edge in the ongoing Ashes series against England without restoring to sledging, which Cricket Australia has banned for players. Before the start of the Ashes,CA had told Ricky Ponting and his boys to maintain good conduct on the field as the players are perceived as role models.

But Watson says it’s quite a task to intimidate the opponent without getting nasty. “It is a fine line between being perfect role models and being competitive. As a group we don’t want to lose the edge. We have been so good in the past, because of our competitive nature and the fact that we don’t take a backward step,” Watson said. The Australian all rounder, recuperating from a thigh strain, said ultimately it’s victory which will be remembered by people. “It is a sticky one because of course the general public in Australia want us to be perfect role models. The hardest thing when you play is to be extremely competitive and not cross the line. “We have got to make sure we do everything we can to win,in the end, because that is what Cricket Australia and the Australian public do want,” Watson was quoted as saying by ‘Daily Telegraph’.
