US court set to take up Rana’s bail hearing

A Chicago court is set to take up the bail hearing of Tahawwur Hussain Rana,one of the two LeT operatives nabbed by FBI.

A Chicago court is set to take up the bail hearing of Tahawwur Hussain Rana,one of the two LeT operatives nabbed by FBI in October on charges of plotting a major terror attack against India.

The hearing in the case of 48-year-old Rana,a Pakistan-born US-based Canadian citizen,when he is expected to offer more than a million dollars in bond security would proceed before US Magistrate,Judge Nan Nolan,shortly,authorities said.

Earlier,the hearing in the case of Rana’s accomplice David Coleman Headley (49),which was scheduled for December 4,had been indefinitely deferred.

“The detention and preliminary hearing for David Coleman Headley that was scheduled for Friday in US District Court in Chicago is cancelled and will not be held (as scheduled). There is no new date and no further information available at this time,” US Attorney’s Office,Northern District of Illinois,said recently.

Headley’s hearing was scheduled before US Magistrate,Judge Arlander Keys.

Rana along with his school time friend Headley is also under investigation for possible links to the 26/11 terror strikes in Mumbai last year that killed 166 people. Rana’s lawyer,however,claimed that his client “harbours no ill-will” against Indians.

“Mr Rana categorically denies involvement in the tragic events in Mumbai of November 26,2008,” his lawyer Patrick Blegen said in a statement.
