UN secretary general condemns multiple attacks in Nigeria

Ban Ki-Moon said frequency of attacks demonstrate 'unacceptable disregard' for life.

Condemning the multiple attacks in the Nigerian city of Kano,UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has said the frequency of attacks in the West African country demonstrate “unacceptable disregard” for human life.

Over 160 people,including one Indian,have been killed and several injured when bomb attacks ripped through the city targeting police stations and headquarters of Nigeria’s secret police in Kano.

“The Secretary-General condemns in the strongest terms the multiple attacks that have taken place across the northern Nigerian city of Kano,causing large-scale casualties and massive destruction to property,” said a statement from his spokesperson.

It said Ban is “appalled” at the frequency and intensity of recent attacks in Nigeria,which demonstrate “a wanton and unacceptable disregard for human life.”

Extending sincere condolences to the people of Nigeria and to the bereaved families,Ban expressed hope that swift and transparent investigations into the attacks would bring the perpetrators to justice.
