UN drops Gaddafi’s daughter as goodwill envoy

UNDP's agreement with Aisha al-Gaddafi terminated following government crackdown in Libya.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has dropped Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi’s daughter as a goodwill ambassador.

UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said on Wednesday that the UNDP’s agreement with Aisha al-Gaddafi had been terminated following recent events in Libya that included a crackdown by Gaddafi on anti-government protesters.

He said Aisha al-Gaddafi was appointed a goodwill ambassador for Libya on July 24,2009 to focus on UN anti-poverty goals, especially combating HIV/AIDS and violence against women, both culturally sensitive topics.
