Three men were arrested in east Delhi for allegedly indulging in betting during the second one-day match between India and Australia,police said on Thursday.
The arrested were identified as Abhinab (28),Anil Saluja (26) and Ravi Saluja (24) and they were caught from a house in Guru Ram Dass Nagar of Shakarpur locality yesterday following a tip-off,a senior police official said.
“At the time they were apprehended they had placed bets amounting to nearly rupees one crore,” he said. Police have recovered three television sets,a laptop,an internet connection and 126 mobile phones.
“The betting starts from Mumbai and then it is handled from Faridabad and Gurgaon. Different bookies across Delhi take betting rates on mobile phones from Gurgaon and Faridabad,which they give to their customers operating via mobile phones,” the official explained.
“Their interrogation also revealed that they bet on the win or loss of political parties during elections,” he added.
