In what seems to be a refreshing change,Indian women are actively participating in sports like never before. Sania Mirza in tennis and Saina Nehwal in badminton, are two such examples which testify the above statement. With their sheer grit, these girls have scored new goals of success. But,can the common Indian women adjust with their traditional norms and their sporting dreams? Indian Express.com talks to a cross-section to get the pulse of the people in general. Anuradha Kumari from Karol Bagh feels that if possible she will surely go for sports even as she cites that her family does not support her on this front. Anuradha feels very proud when a woman gets recognized for her outstanding performance in sports. These recognitions inspire a lot. Even,if we are not recognized, but seeing others rising makes us feel good, she quips. Niharika from Gorakhpur (UP) opines that the field of sports is comfortable for girls. Everyone is attracted by the glamour in sports, and even me too, she added. On the other hand,Harshita from Ashram (Delhi) feels that there is a lot of struggle for women in this field (of sports). But,she feels really good when the world heaps praises on a winning woman. It sends a strong message that women can excel in any field (of their choice). Sonal Lal from Ghaziabad wants to make her name like Sania, but not in tennis. The field of sports is not easy for all women. It all depends upon the individual and her attitude, opines Sonal. Usha Devi from Mukherjee Nagar says she will support her daughter to fulfill her dreams and will not mind if she wants to make her career in sports. Women can handle everything with same dedication and concentration as men, states Usha Devi. Rani Singh from Mohan Nagar thinks that at the marriageable age,she will suggest her daughter to get married and she thinks that sports is not the field for girls because girls are expected to sport a soft personality. Handling many works at a time is difficult for everyone including girls, explains Rani. Aditya Verma feels glad by Sainas victory in the Indonesian Open. He believes that girls are not much behind guys in terms of excelling in sports, which he feels,is really appreciable. I strong believe that Sainas current success is just the beginning and she has a long way to go.
