Sri Lanka not to tour Pakistan due to security fears

International teams have deserted Pakistan since the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in March 2009.

Sri Lanka has outrightly refused to tour Pakistan later this year, citing security fears in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks at a key naval base in the port city of Karachi that left 13 people dead.

In a bid to revive international cricket in Pakistan, the PCB had recently invited Sri Lanka for a Test and limited-overs tour as scheduled in the Future Tours Programme.

But Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) interim committee chairman Somachandra de Silva have confirmed that they have declined PCB’s offer to play the series in Pakistan.

“We have replied to the PCB and await their confirmation. We are not going to play in Pakistan at this stage and have offered to host the series in our country,” De Silva said.

“If they agree to play in Sri Lanka they will have to bear the entire hosting costs. We have also expressed our willingness to play at a neutral venue in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.”
