Chandhok test drives in Korea

India’s Karun Chandhok has become the first man to drive a Formula One car at a new race track in South Korea. The HRT Racing driver steered a Red Bull car around the circuit in the southwestern county of Yeongam ahead on Saturday of the Korean Grand Prix scheduled for Oct. 24. “It’s an interesting circuit,” he said after his test run of the 3.48-mile (5.6-kilometer) track. Chandhok competed in the season’s first 10 Grand Prix races for Spanish team HRT before being replaced by Japanese driver Sakon Yamamoto.

Shiv,Jeev miss the cut

The Indian challenge in the Omega European Masters ended after the six golfers in fray missed the cut with largely disappointing second-round cards. Shiv Kapur managed a two-under 69 but that was not enough to fetch him a place inside the cut-line which came at one-under 141. Kapur finished two strokes below the cut-line at one-over 143. Jeev Milkha Singh signed off with an identical total but after returning a disappointing second round of two-over 73. Further down was Delhi-golfer Jyoti Randhawa,who carded a three-over 74 to finish with a total of 144 along with Gaganjeet Bhullar.

India to play Namibia on Sep 15

The Indian national football team will play Namibia in an international friendly on September 15 at the Ambedkar Stadium here. Ranked 115 in the FIFA rankings,Namibia will be India’s second international assignment since last year’s Nehru Cup,after the friendly against Thailand. National coach Bob Houghton was earlier more in favour of playing against South Asian countries and local sides in West Asian nations but his proposal had been promptly rejected by the All India Football Federation (AIFF),who claimed that the friendlies were arranged after consultation with Houghton.

Ref fails to show up

An African Nations Cup soccer qualifier in Zambia on Saturday had to be postponed for 24 hours when the referees failed to arrive. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) ordered the Group C qualifier between Zambia and the Comoros Islands in Lusaka to be rescheduled for Sunday because the officiating team from Eritrea were stuck in transit in Dubai. The referees were expected to arrive near midnight on Saturday,the match commissioner,Wellington Nyatanga of Zimbabwe,told a news conference.
