Somdev Devvarman began his quest to qualify for the US Open with an emphatic win over American Alex Bogomolov Jr in the first round. The Indian beat his opponent, seeded 16th in qualifying,6-3 6-3 to move closer to the main draw, and put in a confident display that should hold him in good stead as he gets ready to play his next match.

I played a solid match right from the start. I am feeling good going into the qualifiers as I have prepared well, Devvarman said.
