Indias Somdev Devvarman has managed to break into the top-100 for the first time. In the latest ATP rankings announced on Monday,Somdev is ranked a career-best 96th. This is the first time an Indian player has broken into the top-100 in singles since Leander Paes 11 years back.

Paes was ranked as high as 73 in 1998 before he decided to focus on doubles. Somdev rose seven rungs in the chart with his 540 points and is only the fourth Indian after Ramesh Krishnan 23rd in 1985,Vijay Amritraj 16th in 1980 and Leander Paes 73rd in 1998 to have achieved the top-100 ranked feat.

Fails to qualify

However,Somdev Devvarman was forced to a 6-3 4-6 1-6 in the second and final round of the qualifying events of the ATP Legg Mason Tennis Classic tournament against Kevin Kim,10th seeded American whom Somdev beat in all their previous three meetings. The loss cost him a first round place in the tournament. Now Rohan Bopanna is the lone Indian challenge in the 1,165,500 hard court tournament. He has partnered Pakistani Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi in the doubles tie.

Bryan brothers set new record

Americans Bob and Mike Bryan won their record 62nd career doubles title on the ATP Tour, the twins defeating American Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer of Netherlands Antilles 6-7 6,6-2,10-7 tiebreaker at the Farmers Classic. Its a flood of emotion, Bob Bryan said. Never thought wed be this healthy, this consistent our whole career. The Bryans had shared the ATP record with Australians Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde, who won 61 titles.
