Coming into a tournament like the Hero Honda Indian Open, the spotlight is always on Indian players. And thats because we are now winning on major tours around the world.
My own homecoming after winning on the PGA Tour has been tremendous. There have been celebrations with friends and family. It has been like one big party and even though I went to the Singapore Open after the biggest win of my career,I really have not played much.
But after having arrived at the Delhi Golf Course,I have been training and played a bit, too. My regular caddie Ali Jaan is here and he knows the course well. So I am really comfortable to start with.
Winning on the PGA has definitely taken a lot of pressure off me. I can feel it in my body. Before I won,the time during which I was trying to keep my card,I had a sore neck. As soon as I won it the pain was gone.
It has been fun heading back to India. I have met a lot of friends, who have always been supportive of me. Now I have the chance to thank all those who congratulated me when I won the PGA tour.
Playing the Indian Open is always a heady feeling. Anytime you win is fun especially when it is in India.
I have won Asian Tour events twice here, one of them interestingly was the Hero Honda Masters in 2003. I have also won the Indian Open back in 1993 and that was my first on the Asian Tour. It gave me a lot of confidence.
The Indian Open is a very important part of my schedule and that I try make it for the event regardless of how I am playing or where I am playing.
The DGC is an awesome place to play golf no matter if it is for a tournament or just a round of golf with friends. I always have fun playing there.
I like the course. In winters once the wind starts to pick up it can get pretty tricky.
