West is set to miss the final race of the season next week at Valencia,Spain.
The 31-year-old rider, who finished second in the past two world championship races in Malaysia and Australia, can appeal the sanction.
The governing body says West tested positive for the stimulant methylhexaneamine when finished seventh at Le Mans.
He has been disqualified from the French race and drops two places to 16th in the season standings.
West’s ban applies from Oct. 30 and bars him from competing in any FIM-affiliated international or national event.
