Mohali-only visa sees Faisalabad Wolves packed off from Chandigarh

The Wolves reached Chandigarh on Sunday morning to take part in the CLT20 starting from Sept 17.

Ending several days of uncertainty, the Faisalabad Wolves reached Chandigarh on Sunday morning to take part in the Champions League T20 starting from September 17. It required the last-minute intervention of the Indian Prime Minister to get the process through and the team that arrived was without captain Misbah-ul-Haq and their strike bowler Saeed Ajmal. On reaching the city, however, the Pak players suffered another setback when they were asked to shift out of their hotel. It was learnt that their visas were valid only for Mohali and since the hotel in which the team was booked in was in Chandigarh, they had to then be accommodated in the clubhouse of the Punjab Cricket Association stadium in Mohali. “The PCA will accommodate them in the clubhouse for today and the BCCI is in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Home Ministry to see that they get visa for Chandigarh too. We are hopeful that it will be done by tomorrow and they will be shifted back to Chandigarh,” informed GS Walia,PCA Joint Secretary.

The Wolves will begin their Champions League T20 against New Zealand’s T20 champions,Otago Volts,in the opening match on September 17 at Mohali, the venue that saw the national side lose to India in the World Cup more than two years ago.

The two mainstays that did not accompany the side,Ajmal and Misbah-ul-Haq,are currently resting after their exertions in Zimbabwe and are expected to join the squad later. “We are quite confident and looking forward to play against the other teams in the qualifiers. Misbah and Saeed (Ajmal) have huge experience of playing in India and we will bank on their experience in this tournament,” said wicket-keeper Mohammad Salim, who made it to the national side two years back on the tour of West Indies.
