Bill Cosby, the veteran actor and comedian offers a collection of warmhearted reminiscences, including stories about his angst-ridden teenage crush and about a furious blue jays freakish set-to with a thieving squirrel, the latter tale both bizarre and hilarious in his new book I Didnt Ask to be Born, but Im Glad I Was. Having made a name for himself in standup comedy in the early 1960s,Cosby was excited to be cast as a government agent in the espionage series I Spy. He was the first African-American to co-star in the series and the first to take a show to No. 1 in the ratings. When he landed the job, however,he wasnt thinking about breaking down racial barriers. I didnt expect too much in terms of where the series would be shown or whether or not it was going to be successful. I just knew I didnt want to embarrass my people, says the 74-year-old.
In Time is the latest bit of dark social commentary and mind-bending sci-fi from director Andrew Niccol. It features Olivia Wilde as Justin Timberlakes mother and Vincent Kartheiser as Amanda Seyfrieds father. In the films vision of our near future, time is money and people die by the age of 25 if they dont accumulate more time. Timberlake plays Will,a working stiff unexpectedly turned rich in time, only to be chased by a relentless team of Time Keepers. He kidnaps and connects with Sylvia Seyfried, daughter of a powerful industrialist Kartheiser and they end up on the run together. For all the films futuristic elements, none may throw off audiences more than the sight of young actors portraying the parents of other young actors. Itll be a shock for the audiences but as the movie progresses, when you see everyone looks the same age,you start to let it go, he says.
Tarsem Singh,
the 50-year-old Indian filmmaker who made The Cell 2000 and The Fall, which was shot in 2006 and finally released in 2009,has now back to back shot the upcoming Immortals and an as-yet-untitled Snow White film with Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. I think I will be making a lot more films, Singh says. The reason it looked liked I stopped was that The Fall was a passion project, and I just waited until The Fall was going to be ready. It was one of those films that was going to take two years to make or 20 years to make, and I didnt care, says Singh, who previously directed stylish commercials for Levis,Pepsi and Campari,as well as the award-winning video for R.E.M.s Losing My Religion 1991. Immortals,a 3D,visually striking production is based on Greek mythology and is set for release in November.
