Karnataka Dy CM in Assam,assures safety,jobs to men who return

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister R Ashoka on Saturday flew down to Guwahati along with state police chief L Pachhau to assure the people of Assam and other Northeast states that Karnataka was safe.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister R Ashoka on Saturday flew down to Guwahati along with state police chief L Pachhau to assure the people of Assam and other Northeast states that Karnataka was safe.

He also said that the Karnataka government would ensure that every person from the Northeast who had fled the state in the wake of rumours and threats was taken back by their employers. Ashoka met a group of Assamese youths who had come from Bangalore and assured them the same.

“Karnataka is safe. We have already registered 17 cases and arrested 22 persons… Our police have also seized two PCs,one laptop and one mobile handset used for spreading rumours,” Ashoka told reporters.

He said there were about 3.5 lakh people from Assam and other Northeastern states in Karnataka. “While a majority of them are with security agencies and the hospitality sector,we also have a sizeable number working in the upper layers of the IT sector,” Ashoka said.

He said exactly 34,627 people had bought railway tickets for various destinations in Assam in Bangalore following rumours of attacks.

Meanwhile,the BJP on Saturday demanded the arrest of AUDF MP Badruddin Ajmal and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi for “involvement” in the threat to people of Assam.
