Jwala-Diju loses in Denmark Open,Indian campaign ends

V Diju and Jwala Gutta suffered a straight-game defeat in the quarterfinals at Odense.

Curtains were drawn on India’s campaign at the Denmark Open Super Series after mixed doubles pair of V Diju and Jwala Gutta suffered a humiliating straight-game defeat in the quarterfinals at Odense today.

The unseeded Indian pair lost 5-21 7-21 to third seeded English combination of Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen in a match that lasted for just 26 minutes.

In a lopsided match,Jwala-Diju couldn’t provide any fight as the English pair reeled off eight points to zoom to 8-0 before pocketing the first game without breaking a sweat.

The second game was no different as the closest scoreline the Indian pair could go to the England combo was 2-3,before Nielsen and Pedersen just walked away with the game and the match.

Jwala and Diju had reached the semifinals of the China Masters last month.

India’s highest ranked shuttler Saina Nehwal crashed out of the tournament in the second round yesterday.
